About Haines House Underground Railroad Museum
The Haines House Underground Railroad Museum in Alliance, Ohio preserves an almost two-century-old home where enslaved people sought freedom and abolitionists supported their efforts. Visitors tour the historic house to learn stories of freedom seekers, trailblazers, and abolitionists who shaped the struggle for American social justice in the Ohio heartland. The museum's exhibits and artifacts document the courageous work of those who participated in the Underground Railroad network. The Old Kitchen displays three generations of Haines family history. The National Park Service recognized Haines House in 2004 as an Underground Railroad site in its Network to Freedom program, one of only two such sites in Stark County. Tourism Ohio designated it as one of fifteen locations on the official Ohio Historic Underground Railroad Trail. Visitors can schedule guided tours or attend open house visits on weekend afternoons, with refreshments available.
