About Governor Duncan Mansion

Governor Duncan Mansion is a restored 1834 home in Jacksonville that offers guided tours of period rooms depicting life during the era of Joseph Duncan, Illinois's fifth elected governor. The mansion served as both the official executive residence and family home from 1834 to 1838, when the state capitol was in Vandalia. Visitors tour the house to experience how the Duncan family lived on the Illinois prairie during the early nineteenth century. The home is owned and operated by the Rev. James Caldwell Chapter NSDAR and remains furnished to reflect the time period. Tours are available during published seasonal hours, and group tours can be arranged by advance reservation. The mansion is located in Duncan Park at the corner of West State Street and Webster Street in Jacksonville, within the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area.
