About Gold Nugget Museum
Gold Nugget Museum in Paradise preserves the region's gold rush heritage through exhibits centered on the discovery of the 54-pound Dogtown Nugget in 1859. The modernized facility is now shared with the Paradise Gem and Mineral Club. Visitors explore artifacts and collections documenting life in the 1850s and 1860s, including period furnishings, mining equipment, and historical documents, with docents available throughout the museum. The museum hosts Days of Living History events that let students from across Northern California experience period life firsthand through interactive demonstrations. Gold Nugget Days, an annual celebration begun in 1959, features a parade, donkey derby, and Queen contest, drawing visitors regionally. General admission is free. The museum was rebuilt following the 2018 Camp Fire, reflecting the community's commitment to restoring this Paradise institution.
