The Galesburg Railroad Museum preserves and shares the railroad heritage of Galesburg and the surrounding region. The museum features the CB&Q 1945 RPO, a mail-sorting car that traveled passenger trains at high speeds, complete with a baggage section and Railway Express Agency compartment. The centerpiece is locomotive 3006, a Hudson Class S-4 steam engine built in 1930 that logged over 2.3 million miles in freight and passenger service before its 1962 donation to the city. Inside the museum building, visitors see lanterns, tools, uniforms, decorative china, photographs, and working steam engine models, all meticulously organized in display cases. The collection grew from donations by hundreds of contributors over decades.
