About Fort Verde State Historic Park

Fort Verde State Historic Park in Camp Verde preserves the best-preserved Indian Wars period military fort in Arizona. Visitors experience frontier military life through three historic house museums furnished in the 1880s period, all listed on the National and State Register of Historic Places. The former Administration building houses the Visitor Center with interpretive exhibits and period artifacts from military life, including history on the Indian Scouts and Indian Wars era. The park features several original buildings still standing from when the fort operated as a base for General Crook's U.S. Army scouts and soldiers during the 1870s and 1880s. Living history programs scheduled periodically give visitors a glimpse into Arizona's frontier history through flag-raising and lowering ceremonies, artillery demonstrations, living history presentations with re-enactors, Dutch oven cooking demonstrations, and military drills. The park offers picnic tables, restrooms, and parking for RVs and tour buses.
