About Folsom, El Dorado, & Sacramento Hist RR Assoc - Folsom Railroad Museum

The Folsom Railroad Museum, operated by the Folsom, El Dorado & Sacramento Historical Railroad Association, preserves and displays railroad history in California's Gold Country. Visitors explore a Santa Fe passenger car that serves as the museum's exhibition area, library, and store. The museum maintains a growing collection of railroad artifacts ranging from date nails and lanterns to documents, maps, rare photographs, drawings, and memorabilia. The library contains meticulously cataloged railroad books, many focused on local railroad history. A reconstructed A-frame turntable, originally erected in 1867 and restored on its original pivot stone, demonstrates the equipment once used to turn locomotives. The museum is located on the railroad block in Folsom's Historic District, adjacent to the Folsom train depot and within walking distance of the Sacramento Regional Transit light rail's Historic Folsom station. The location suits railroad enthusiasts and history buffs interested in hands-on exploration of regional transportation heritage.
