About Placerville Sacramento Valley Railroad (Hampton Station)

Placerville Sacramento Valley Railroad (Hampton Station) is a nonprofit heritage railroad operating scenic train excursions and motorcar rides over 15 miles of track between Folsom and Latrobe in California's Gold Country foothills. The railroad preserves the historic Placerville Branch, a route that began in the 1850s during the Gold Rush and became part of Southern Pacific Railroad in 1888. Visitors board trains at Hampton Station in Folsom for trips through the foothills along the restored right-of-way. The railroad offers special excursions including breakfast trains to Latrobe and seasonal events. Passengers experience restored coaches and vintage motorcar rides on the preserved line. Train operations are currently undergoing essential track repairs and upgrades, with rides scheduled to resume later in 2026. The organization depends on volunteers to help operate the historic railroad and restore Southern Pacific locomotive SP #2110 to full operations.
