About Englewood Museum
The Englewood Museum occupies the historic Lampp House, built in 1928, and serves as a community repository for items and stories relating to the area's cultural heritage. Visitors explore rotating exhibits that change several times yearly, with past displays including a "Florida Cowboys" video. The museum also maintains information about local history markers, including the recently dedicated New Point Comfort marker on Lemon Bay Road, which commemorates an area developed in the 1920s that housed the Bass Biological Laboratory, a pioneering marine research station that operated from 1931 to 1944. That facility provided specimens to research institutions worldwide and hosted approximately seventy-five visiting scientists. The museum collects, preserves and displays artifacts that help the public understand how Englewood's heritage has shaped the broader American experience. Founded in 2014 and relocated to the Lampp House in 2018, the museum operates as a volunteer-run nonprofit in Englewood, Florida.
