About Crawford County Historical Society

The Crawford County Historical Society in Meadville preserves and interprets the region's history through museums, research archives, and community programs. Visitors explore the Baldwin-Reynolds House Museum, the Johnson-Shaw Stereoscopic Museum, and the J. Russell Mosier Medical Museum at Mount Hope, where tours and special events bring local history to life. The Society maintains one of western Pennsylvania's most comprehensive research collections, containing over 20,000 photographs, tens of thousands of manuscript pages, and 220 years of newspapers for genealogists and history enthusiasts. Programming includes an Oral History Program that collects regional stories and educational offerings such as cemetery preservation workshops and do-it-yourself restoration classes. The Society also operates a 1921 Ford Model T Depot Hack to bring history countywide. Visitors ranging from casual history buffs to serious researchers, families, and those planning special events find resources and activities suited to their interests.
