About Confederate States Ship Neuse II

Confederate States Ship Neuse II is the world's only full-scale replica of a Confederate ironclad gunboat. Built according to original plans for an Albemarle-class ironclad, the vessel sits on the corner of Heritage and Gordon streets in Kinston. Visitors board the gunboat to explore its construction and design, learning about this Civil War-era warship. The replica demonstrates how the ironclad was engineered and outfitted, with exhibits covering details like the Brooke Ordnance that armed similar vessels. Volunteers open the ship for public tours on Saturday mornings and afternoons. Groups can arrange private tours by appointment to explore the gunboat at their own pace. The CSS Neuse Foundation maintains this educational structure through donations and special events. A visit suits history enthusiasts and Civil War researchers interested in naval technology and maritime history.
