About Chapman Museum

Chapman Museum presents the history of the Glens Falls–Queensbury region and its connection to the Adirondack Mountains. Visitors explore exhibits about everyday life in the community, view the 19th-century Adirondack photographs of Seneca Ray Stoddard, and interact with hands-on displays that connect local stories to their own memories. The museum occupies a red brick Victorian building constructed in 1867 by hardware merchant Zopher DeLong, later remodeled by his son John. The building now houses an exhibition gallery, climate-controlled collections storage, a research room, and a museum shop. Changing seasonal exhibits bring additional focus to subjects that shaped the region's heritage, from the French and Indian War through the timber industry era to the early tourism boom. Staff-guided tours are available Thursday afternoons. The museum is located in Glens Falls where the Hudson River leaves the Adirondack Mountains and is accessible for visitors with limited mobility.
