About Carver-Hill Museum

Carver-Hill Museum is a Florida historical site in Crestview that honors the Carver-Hill School, a former segregated school for African-American children founded by philanthropist Julius Rosenwald. Visitors tour exhibits featuring school artifacts, photographs, yearbooks and sports memorabilia alongside historical documents of local families and the community. The museum occupies a brick community center built with donated materials and volunteer labor, constructed to replace the original one-room lunchroom building from the school. Former students often volunteer at the museum and share narratives about their experiences. The museum hosts community events including the Carver-Hill Festival, where families compete in amateur sports competitions, enjoy food and drinks, and participate in a community parade through the area. The museum serves as Okaloosa County's only archive emphasizing African-American history and reflects the school's mission of educating Black children during the era of segregation.
