About Bush Family Home State Historic Site

The Bush Family Home State Historic Site in Midland preserves the early-1950s residence where George and Barbara Bush raised their young family after moving to West Texas in 1948. Visitors tour the restored home through guided tours offered during operating hours, exploring furnished rooms that reflect the family's daily life. The site features George Bush's bedroom and desk, a playroom, kitchen, and living areas. Exhibits throughout the home include a baseball display and period furnishings that document the lives of two U.S. Presidents, two Governors, and a First Lady. The site also offers youth programs including a junior docent program, youth advisory council, 1950s history club, and 1950s science club for school-year participation. Special programming includes Third Thursday Reading events for children. The home is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and admission is charged at published rates.
