About Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve
Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve encompasses nearly 8,533 acres in Antioch, centered on a historic mining district acquired beginning in the early 1970s. Visitors hike trails through the landscape and explore the area's natural and historic resources. The Coal Mine Experience program, offered on Saturdays and Sundays, allows visitors to explore the mines further with advance registration. The Greathouse Visitor Center serves as the main hub, open Fridays through Sundays. Naturalists conduct monthly programs relating to the Preserve's resources. The park welcomes dogs and camping, making it suitable for families with children. Picnicking and nature study are primary activities throughout the rolling hillside terrain. The preserve's combination of outdoor recreation and educational programming about the region's mining heritage attracts visitors interested in both activity and local history.
