Bill Dreggors Park in DeLand spans a historic site on the National Register of Historic Places, dedicated to William J. "Bill" Dreggors, Jr., known for his work in historic preservation. Visitors walk a seven-sixteenths mile loop paved path for walking or jogging and explore the Sensory Butterfly Garden, created for the visually and physically challenged with plants selected for scent, color, texture, taste and touch. The fully restored 1920 Memorial Hospital Building houses the Parks and Recreation Administrative Offices and includes the Bert Fish Room, Operating Room and Apothecary Exhibit, Veterans Gallery and Ice and Electric Exhibit. Behind the building stand the Veterans Memorial Wall, Lemon Room and Burgess Building, which contains the Hawtense Conrad Elephant Fantasyland, West Volusia Black Heritage Gallery and Conrad's Toyland. Freedom Playground, DeLand's only community-built playground, features four picnic pavilions with charcoal grills and on-site restroom facilities, making it popular for birthday parties and family gatherings.
