About Dunlawton Sugar Mill Gardens
Dunlawton Sugar Mill Gardens in Port Orange is a 10-acre botanical garden and historical site where visitors walk among blooming plants that attract bees and butterflies. The gardens operate daily and feature a plant sale area near the restrooms where guests can purchase plants for their own gardens. Volunteers stationed on Wednesday and Saturday mornings answer questions about plants and sell locally sourced honey and garden decals. Master Gardeners hold monthly consultations on the second Wednesday to discuss plant successes and problems. Maps are available in a green mailbox near the bulletin board. The property preserves history from before Florida statehood, with ruins from the original sugar mill plantation that operated in the 1800s. A memorial walkway at the main entrance honors loved ones. The site suits anyone interested in gardens, local history, and volunteering, from casual visitors to those seeking quiet reflection in a natural setting.
