About Animal Science Gateway Garden

Animal Science Gateway Garden offers visitors a chance to observe campus animals and learn about UC Davis Animal Science Department expertise and animal agriculture. The garden features a horse viewing area where guests can watch the animals up close while seated in shaded areas throughout the space. Interpretive signs developed by students, faculty, and volunteers provide detailed information about the exhibits. The garden's design incorporates sustainable materials, including a deck built from redwood planks removed from campus trees and seating constructed from a repurposed squeeze chute and upcycled tractor seats. A visitor gate decorated with steel animal silhouettes marks the entrance, flanked by the University of California's heritage livestock brand. The garden sits just north of the Arboretum's Southwest U.S.A./Mexican collection in Davis, California, created through collaboration between the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences and the UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden.
