About Angels Camp Museum

Angels Camp Museum houses one of the nation's largest collections of carriages and wagons across more than 30,000 square feet of exhibits. Visitors stroll through a beautifully landscaped historical park to explore indoor and outdoor displays covering Gold Rush history, Mark Twain, ranching, mining, and minerals. Interactive exhibits include a human frog jump where visitors attempt to out-jump Rosie the Ribiter and learn gold panning techniques used by 1849 miners. The museum also features the Altaville Schoolhouse, one of the oldest and best preserved little red schoolhouses in California, located nearby. An on-site gift shop offers Calaveras-made honey, olive oil, coffee, ceramics, snacks, Gold Rush era souvenirs, local history books, and apparel. The Calaveras Visitors Bureau operates from the museum entrance. Family and group tours are available by reservation.
