About Watch House & Circle Mound

Watch House and Circle Mound is an art installation by Todd Slaughter located in Coffman Park that visitors explore by walking through and around its structures. The artwork centers on a twelve-foot copper sphere perched atop a copper-skinned house that bridges a 220-foot diameter earthen circle mound. As visitors ascend the ramp to the Watch House, they encounter a field of wild sunflowers and native plants within the mound. Inside the house, terra cotta-colored walls and a stone floor create a contemplative space with windows offering views of a wooded stream and the sunflower field. The perforated dome casts moving patterns of light across interior surfaces and walls. Cut-out patterns in the dome represent family scenes, including a dining table, fruit, vegetables, a flying baby, an open book, and a curled pet dog. Additional symbolism includes a stylized Hopewell hand cutout beside the door and floor holes referencing an Adena communal house structure. The artwork serves individuals and small groups seeking quiet reflection in Dublin, Ohio.
