About Waffle House Museum

The Waffle House Museum in Decatur, Georgia preserves the original Waffle House restaurant that opened on Labor Day weekend in 1955 in nearby Avondale Estates. Visitors journey through the lovingly recreated interior to explore the history of Waffle House #1 and learn the stories of founders Joe and Tom. The museum's exhibit floor covers the brand's evolution through displays on menu history, uniform history, the jukebox, and the Waffle House Index. Guided tours are offered on Wednesdays and last between one and one and a half hours, accommodating up to 25 people per group. The museum also hosts self-guided open houses on select Saturdays throughout the year requiring no appointment. Tours are recommended for ages ten and older due to limited interactive elements. General admission is free.
