Vikingsholm is a Scandinavian-style mansion open for tours during summer months in Tahoma, California. Built in 1929 by Lora Josephine Knight, the house sits on the shore of Emerald Bay and was designed by Swedish architect Lennart Palme to echo the fjords of Scandinavia. The estate represents one of the finest examples of Scandinavian architecture in the United States. Visitors tour the completed summer home, which Knight enjoyed with her guests for fifteen years until her death in 1945. The property became part of Emerald Bay State Park after philanthropist Harvey West negotiated its acquisition by the State of California in 1953. The magnificent natural surroundings of Emerald Bay remain accessible throughout the year. The setting includes views of Fannette Island and the bay's scenic landscape, making the location suitable for those interested in architectural history, Scandinavian design, and Lake Tahoe's natural beauty.

The page stays here because the attraction is still worth knowing about, and because we keep checking. If a deal appears on their site, it appears here.
