About USS Orleck Naval Museum

The USS Orleck Naval Museum is a Gearing-class destroyer docked in downtown Jacksonville where visitors tour this active naval vessel and explore its history. The ship served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1982 and earned distinction as a Korean War Train Buster, destroying two North Korean supply trains. Aboard, guests encounter artifacts, interactive displays, and onboard exhibits that reveal the ship's role across multiple conflicts including the Cold War, Korean War, and Vietnam War. The museum uses a Guide ID audio tour system that automatically shares stories and details about each space as visitors move through the ship at their own pace. The USS Orleck is named after Lieutenant Joseph Orleck, a World War II naval officer posthumously awarded the Navy Cross. Located at the old shipyard Pier 1 in Jacksonville, the museum welcomes families, school groups, military reunions, and history enthusiasts to experience this distinguished naval heritage site.
