About Thomas T. Taber Museum

The Thomas T. Taber Museum, established in 1907 by the Lycoming County Historical Society, houses the most comprehensive collection of documents, photographs, and artifacts relating to the pre-history, history, and culture of northcentral Pennsylvania. Visitors walk through galleries featuring 19th-century still life paintings by Severin Roesen, works by magazine illustrator Frances Tipton Hunter, and art by Ashcan School member John Sloan. The museum recreates historical settings including a frontier cabin, a Greek Revival parlor, and a Ralston General Store, alongside exhibits on Native American culture, military heritage, logging and lumbering, and household industries. The LaRue Shempp Toy Train Collection, featuring over three hundred model trains including rare one-of-a-kind pieces, serves as a major highlight. The Community Room hosts lectures on historical topics, temporary exhibits, and activities throughout the year. Regular meetings of genealogy societies, archaeology chapters, and art clubs indicate diverse programming. The museum is located in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, on Millionaires' Row.
