About Sacramento Model Railroad Historical Society

Sacramento Model Railroad Historical Society is a museum where visitors watch operating model train layouts that interpret California's railroad history. The main exhibit depicts California railroads from Oakland through Sacramento to Keddie, with meticulously detailed passenger and freight trains running across the layout. A Central Traffic Control machine tracks each train's location and manages traffic across the railroad. The society also operates a large narrow gauge railroad for visitors to observe. The museum holds open house events where guests can watch the trains in operation and bring friends to experience the working layouts. Located in Sacramento, California, the Sacramento Model Railroad Historical Society appeals to anyone interested in model railroading and the region's railroad heritage through hands-on observation of the detailed miniature equipment and systems in action.
