About Rome Area History Center
The Rome Area History Center in downtown Rome interprets the history of Rome and Floyd County through exhibits and an extensive archival collection. Visitors explore the area's story from earliest settlements to the present day, discovering how diverse peoples and cultures shaped this Southern region. The museum features themed exhibits and an interactive timeline of local history. First Saturdays feature free tours of the iconic Rome Clocktower, where visitors climb to the top for views of the city. The center also offers the Roman Holiday Riverboat Tour on the Coosa River. Schools can arrange field trips, and groups of ten or more can schedule guided tours. The center hosts special events and programming including lectures and exhibits. A gift shop inside features items from local artists and regional souvenirs. The center is fully accessible, and general admission is always free.
