About President James K. Polk State Historic Site
President James K. Polk State Historic Site preserves the birthplace of the 11th President and the only Chief-of-State born in Mecklenburg County. Visitors explore historic cabins on the grounds and watch a 13-minute captioned film about President Polk shown every half hour. Guided cabin tours lasting about 25 minutes depart from the Visitor Center lobby on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m., with tour tickets available for purchase online. The grounds and Visitor Center are always open to the public at no cost. The site features a historic kitchen garden and cemetery. School groups can arrange field trips with hands-on activities and living history demonstrations beyond the standard tour. A gift shop operates on-site. The attraction is located in Pineville, North Carolina, minutes from Uptown Charlotte and accessible via I-485, making it convenient for regional visitors interested in presidential history and early American domestic life.
