About Owens Valley Paiute-Shoshone Cultural Center

The Owens Valley Paiute-Shoshone Cultural Center in Bishop preserves and presents the history and living culture of the Nuumu (Paiute) and Newe (Shoshone) peoples. The museum features cultural displays, artifact collections, historical archives, and media documenting the art and lifeways of these indigenous communities. A dedicated Memorial Hall honors Native American veterans and their families. Environmental displays examine the region's ecology and the tribes' relationship to the land. Visitors can explore seasonal events including spring and fall pinenut blessings, storytelling programs, and spring and holiday markets. The gift shop stocks arts and crafts created by local tribal artisans alongside publications about Native culture. The facility serves researchers and the general public interested in indigenous heritage of the Owens Valley.
