About Northeast Georgia History Center

Northeast Georgia History Center is dedicated to preserving and sharing regional history through exhibits, historic structures, educational programs, and community events. Visitors tour the White Path Cabin, an 18th-century home of Cherokee tribal leader White Path built around 1780, and explore a working blacksmith shop where demonstrations reveal traditional craftsmanship. The main gallery, called the Land of Promise Exhibit, displays hundreds of artifacts spanning over 10,000 years of Northeast Georgia history alongside video presentations. Interactive, kid-friendly exhibits invite hands-on engagement with the region's past. The center hosts educational programming including homeschool days that explore topics like Appalachian folklore and Hispanic heritage, as well as lecture series and special events featuring historical interpreters and guest speakers. A visit suits families, students, and history enthusiasts seeking to learn little-known stories of local, state, and national history through direct experience with authentic structures and collections. The center is located in Gainesville, Georgia.
