About New Bern Civil War Battlefield Park

New Bern Civil War Battlefield Park preserves over 30 acres where nearly one-third of a major Civil War battle occurred. Visitors walk the preserved "redans," or fighting positions, that remain largely unchanged since the battle. The park features a 20-foot diameter color ground map at its gateway, 36 interpretive panels describing the battle and its impact, and a visitor center. A free audio tour app and self-guided tour brochure help visitors navigate the battlefield independently. Trained volunteer guides offer tours by advance reservation. The park suits history enthusiasts and Civil War researchers seeking to understand this regional conflict. Located in New Bern, North Carolina, the battlefield is open to the public during daylight hours and is maintained entirely by volunteers of the New Bern Historical Society.
