Needles Regional Museum displays artifacts from local history in a single large room located across the street from the El Garces Harvey House at 929 Front Street in Needles, California. Visitors explore exhibits covering the Santa Fe Railroad, Route 66, the historic Harvey House, historical photographs, and Mojave Indian beadwork and pottery. The museum occupies a 1948 building that originally housed a J.C. Penney store and sits on the pre-1930 Route 66 alignment. The adjacent thrift store offers additional browsing. The museum covers regional history including the founding of Needles in 1883 by the Atlantic & Pacific Railroad and Southern Pacific Railroad along the 35th Parallel transcontinental line. Exhibits also document the Mojave Indian tribe's cultural heritage, including their traditional crafts, sternwheeler navigation on local waterways from the mid-1800s to early 1900s, and the area's mining industry. The museum is staffed by volunteers and operates Monday through Saturday, with limited summer hours as the facility closes during the hottest months.
Hours: 9am-2pm Monday-Saturday
