About Navajo Nation Zoo
The Navajo Nation Zoo in Window Rock, Arizona is the only Native American owned-and-operated zoo in the United States. Visitors explore exhibits featuring over 100 animals representing just over 50 species, all on permanent display. The zoo serves as a sanctuary for injured and orphaned wildlife while providing a quiet place for reflection and connection with native Southwest animals that hold cultural significance to the Navajo People. A major feature is the Golden Eagle Sanctuary and Education Center, opened in 2016, where visitors can view these majestic birds of prey. The zoo receives over 50,000 visitors annually and is located within a Tribally-designated park in the capital city of the Navajo Nation. The facility combines animal viewing with opportunities to learn about species important to Navajo culture and heritage.
