About Navajo County Historical Museum
Navajo County Historical Museum, housed in a 119-year-old historic courthouse on Old Route 66 in Holbrook, features over 70 exhibit areas chronicling prehistoric times, Native American cultures, early settlers, and ranchers across Navajo County. Visitors explore artifacts, photographs, and documents that tell stories of those who shaped this region. The museum maintains an archives for research and a book and gift shop stocked with publications about the Petrified Forest National Park, Route 66, Native American heritage, regional cookbooks, and archaeology, alongside merchandise including petrified wood, postcards, and children's books. A ramp on the north side provides accessible entry for visitors with mobility needs. General admission is free. The museum operates six days a week and welcomes researchers, history enthusiasts, and families seeking to understand Navajo County's heritage. Volunteers contribute over 1,000 hours annually to preserve and document the collections. The museum is accredited by the Arizona Historical Society.
