Mound House is a museum and archaeological site on Fort Myers Beach that preserves nearly 2,000 years of Southwest Florida history. The six-exhibit museum details the Calusa, Seminole, Latino, and Anglo-American cultures that occupied the site, centered on a shell mound purposely constructed by the Calusa people. Visitors explore hands-on replica artifacts and participate in atlatl throwing during guided tours led by educators. The nearly three-acre property itself remains an active archaeological site. Kayak tours take visitors through Estero Bay's tidal creeks and mangrove tunnels, where wading birds, dolphins, and manatees appear regularly. Guides point out additional Calusa archaeological sites visible from the water. An observation pier and kayak launch remain open daily, while the museum and store operate Wednesday through Saturday. The site suits visitors of all ages seeking education about regional Native American heritage and natural bay ecology.
Hours: Museum and Museum Store are open Wednesday through Saturday 9:00AM to 4:00PM. Grounds open daily 7:00AM to 6:30PM.
