Mission San Miguel Arcangel is a working parish church and museum in San Miguel where visitors explore a California mission founded in 1797. The church interior retains its original painted artwork created by Indian artisans under the direction of Esteban Munras, never repainted since its completion. The mission grounds include a museum, gift shop, and the old convento building. Visitors can view historical exhibits about the mission's founding, the Salinan people, and colonial Alta California life. The site hosts annual events including Spanish Days at the nearby Rios-Caledonia Adobe, featuring the Mission San Miguel Arcangel Choir, guest singers, dancers, and the New World Baroque Orchestra performing historic recreations. An All Souls Mass and cemetery blessing ceremony honors Salinan tribal ancestors. A Christmas Arts, Craft and Food Faire supports mission restoration efforts. The mission, designated a National Historic Landmark in 2006, continues to serve its original purpose supporting the San Miguel community.
