About McCloud Museum

The McCloud Heritage Junction Museum educates visitors about the unique history of McCloud from 1897 through the 1960s and beyond. Volunteers at the museum collect, preserve, and curate artifacts and images documenting life in this progressive company town, its logging camps, and the connecting railroad network. The museum occupies a building constructed in 1904 that previously served as an employee recreation and pool hall, AFL/CIO chapter headquarters, and a clothing store. Exhibits focus on McCloud's role as the hub of an extensive timber management, milling, and railroad enterprise during the frontier era of Northern California. Visitors learn how the McCloud River Lumber and Railroad Companies intentionally designed the town not only for profitable business operations but also for worker welfare, making it one of the first communities in the region to offer steam heat, electricity, indoor plumbing, and telephone service. The museum explores McCloud's transition from company town to present-day community. The museum is located in McCloud, California.
