About Lockwood Park

Lockwood Park is an equestrian facility and farm in Rockford, Illinois, where visitors engage in horseback riding, interact with animals, and participate in outdoor activities. Horseback riding lessons accommodate ages three and older at all skill levels, from group classes to private sessions for advanced riders. The park operates Sarver Children's Farm, where families visit barns to see farm animals. Pony Experience sessions allow ages two and older to spend time with ponies and small horses. Public trail rides depart multiple times on Saturdays, offering 45-minute guided walks through wooded areas for ages eight and older with no prior riding experience required. Summer camp programs serve ages five through sixteen, combining riding instruction with hiking, games, and crafts. Equine-assisted services use horse interaction to develop social and emotional skills. Field trips accommodate groups of ten or more. Lockwood Park also operates an observatory offering free public viewing sessions and programs about astronomy and space. The park facilities are wheelchair accessible.
