Lake Shasta Caverns National Natural Landmark is a cave system located 900 feet above Shasta Lake in the foothills of Mt. Shasta near Lakehead. Visitors experience a two-hour tour that combines a boat ride across the McCloud Arm of Shasta Lake, a scenic bus tour, and a guided exploration of the cavern formations. The caverns feature over 1,000 state-of-the-art LED luminaries that replace original lighting, creating dynamic illumination that fades in and out to highlight rock formations. An all-new light and sound show plays in the final chamber of the tour. The landmark has operated since 1964 and offers daily tours to visitors of various ages, with family groups and larger parties welcome. The facility accommodates visitors from ages two and up, making it accessible to families with young children and older adults alike. Tours operate seven days a week from this Lakehead location.
