About Heritage Sylvania
Heritage Sylvania is a multi-site museum in downtown Sylvania preserving the region's history through original and recreated buildings. The Historical Village features several structures tracing early community life. The 1850s Lathrop House, the only Underground Railroad site open to the public in Northwest Ohio, was the home of Universalist minister Lucian Lathrop and his wife Larissa. The Heritage Sylvania Archives houses a collection of local and regional items documenting ancestors' daily lives and significant events. Visitors can also see the 1915 Toledo and Western Train Engine, a 1920s wooden caboose, and the original Sylvania Depot Building showcasing the area's railroad heritage. The Cooke-Kuhlman House displays the early twentieth-century home and office of Dr. Uriah Cooke. The organization offers field trips, student programs, changing exhibits, speakers, lectures, and classes designed to make local history engaging and educational for school groups and families exploring Sylvania's shared heritage.
