Visitors explore the Italianate mansion designed by renowned Chicago architect William LeBaron Jenney and built starting in 1873 for Governor Richard J. Oglesby, a U.S. Senator, Union General, three-term Illinois governor, and associate of Abraham Lincoln. The house features period details including a coal-fired furnace, running water, gas lighting fixtures, and indoor plumbing—remarkable systems for its era. The mansion hosts rotating exhibits, including quilt displays held on select Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
