About George J. Hatfield State Recreation Area

George J. Hatfield State Recreation Area, bordered by more than a mile of Merced River frontage in the San Joaquin Valley, offers fishing, camping, picnicking, river wading, sunbathing, hiking, kayaking and nature study. The park opens at 8:00 am and closes at sunset daily. Dogs are permitted in the campground only. Vehicle day-use admission is published on parks.ca.gov, with regular and seasonal rates available. Fourth graders and their families receive free entry at this park among 54 select state parks statewide. Seniors aged 62 and older and their spouse or domestic partner can enter free during non-peak season with the Senior Golden Bear Pass, valid for the calendar year at twenty dollars. Honorably discharged California veterans receive a lifetime pass covering all basic facilities at no cost.
