About Florida Keys Aquarium Encounters
Florida Keys Aquarium Encounters in Marathon lets visitors observe and interact with marine life in hands-on exhibits. The facility features touch tanks where guests handle starfish, urchins, horseshoe crabs, and hermit crabs. A reef tank allows swimming experiences where visitors hand-feed rays, angelfish, sharks, and moray eels through a passthrough opening. The aquarium displays fish, sharks, gators, seahorses, a 300-pound grouper, rays, turtles, and tortoises. Popular encounters include the Big Shark Bay program, where guests feed and interact with adult nurse sharks and assist marine biologists in shark training sessions. The interconnected reef and shark tank system was featured on the television show Tanked.
