FirstHand Climbing, Winston-Salem

About FirstHand Climbing

FirstHand Climbing is a bouldering gym in downtown Winston-Salem where visitors climb rope-free routes on walls graded from V0 to V9 and beyond. Climbers work their way up terrain ranging from vertical to slightly overhanging, using proper technique to push with legs rather than pull with arms. Climbing shoes are required; rentals are included free on a first visit. Routes feature holds that setters regularly change to provide new climbs, a process called route setting. The gym offers classes for those learning downclimbing and proper technique, with staff available to help. Children around age 10 can reach holds for most regular routes. Day passes cost $14 for minors, seniors, students, teachers, military personnel, and first responders, down from $18. A 5-punch pass runs $59 for the same groups, regularly $79. Current pricing and offers are posted at firsthandclimbing.com.
