Eternal Flame Falls, Orchard Park

About Eternal Flame Falls

Eternal Flame Falls, located within Chestnut Ridge Park in Orchard Park, is a natural waterfall where visitors hike a short trail to witness an unusual phenomenon: a small natural flame that burns at the base of the cascade. The flame results from methane gas seeping from shale deposits beneath the falls, creating a distinctive feature that makes this site notable among regional waterfalls. The tiered waterfall cascades over a dark rock face within a natural gorge setting, surrounded by autumn leaves and green foliage depending on the season. Access begins at roadside parking along Seufert Road, where a modest lot accommodates roughly a dozen vehicles. From there, visitors follow a marked trail into the park. The site requires no admission fee and suits hikers seeking a short, accessible walk to an unusual natural attraction. The combination of flowing water, geological oddity, and wooded setting makes Eternal Flame Falls an uncommon destination for those exploring Western New York's natural features.
