About Earl Scruggs Center
Earl Scruggs Center houses interactive exhibits about the legendary banjo master and the musical heritage of Cleveland County within a restored 1907 courthouse in Shelby. Visitors explore the long-term galleries and rotating special exhibitions through self-guided tours, including the current exhibition on Catawba Nation history. The center hosts live music performances, educational programs, and the Earl Experience Banjo Camp for learners of all levels. Group tours accommodate classes, reunions, and motorcoach parties with advance reservation and discounted admission for larger parties. Active military personnel and all veterans receive free exhibit admission with credentials, made possible through sponsorship by the City of Shelby. The center opens Tuesday through Saturday, with admission charged at published rates on its website. Service animals are welcome in the museum.
