About Dinosaur Tracks

Dinosaur Tracks in Tuba City features actual footprints pressed into rock along a bench below Hamblin Ridge, left by dinosaurs during the early Jurassic period approximately 200 million years ago. Visitors walk among these trace fossils, which paleontologists from Northern Arizona University have verified but cannot definitively attribute to a single species. The prints may have been made by carnivorous dinosaurs including Eubrontes, Grallator, Coelophysis kayentakatae, or Dilophosaurus wetherilli. A Navajo guide greets visitors at the site and offers tours through the unprotected landscape. The location sits on the Diné Navajo reservation about seventy miles north of Flagstaff. Visitors can view Navajo jewelry and handmade crafts at stands near the parking area. The attraction suits families seeking a unique experience connecting directly with prehistoric evidence without enclosed exhibits or processed displays. Do not litter, spill food or beverages, or damage the site. Be respectful as the attraction is not protected.
