Crooked River State Park's check-in office and gift shop serve as the hub for this 500-acre coastal Georgia park near St. Marys. Visitors use the office to arrange stays in eleven cottages or among sixty-three tent, trailer and RV campsites positioned beneath palmettos and Spanish moss-draped oaks along the tidal river. The park accommodates groups with two shelters seating eighty and one hundred thirty-five people, plus four picnic shelters for day visitors. A nature center displays fish, snakes, turtles and other animals native to coastal Georgia. The park features a boat ramp and dock popular with anglers, a nature trail winding through forest and salt marsh where hikers encounter gopher tortoises, fiddler crabs, herons and other birds, and a playground for children. Nearby stands a tabby mill built around 1825 and later used as a starch factory during the Civil War. Located just miles from Interstate 95 on Georgia's Colonial Coast, the park connects to Cumberland Island National Seashore by ferry.
