About Chambersburg Heritage Center
The Chambersburg Heritage Center is a museum displaying the history of Franklin County through self-guided, interactive exhibits. Visitors explore five areas of historical merit including Frontier History, which covers the 1700s when Scots-Irish and German immigrants settled the region; Architectural History, featuring covered bridges, bank barns, log cabins, and the distinctive Carpenter's Art window designs of downtown Chambersburg; Transportation History, tracing routes from Indian trails through Conestoga wagons to railroads; and Civil War History. The center occupies a renovated 1915 marble bank building on Memorial Square in the National Historic District. A Children's Activity Room provides activities for younger visitors, and original art is displayed throughout. Guided walking tours are available by advance arrangement. General admission is free. The Heritage Center suits anyone interested in regional history and is located in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
