Carolina Ocean Studies offers hands-on educational boating cruises to barrier islands and ocean reefs along the North Carolina coast. Visitors board Coast Guard-certified vessels ranging from 60 to 85 feet to participate in fishing, crabbing, and beach exploration. Programs visit destinations including Shackleford Banks, home to one of the Eastern United States' largest wild horse populations; Cape Lookout Lighthouse, which has guided ships since 1859; and the secluded beaches of Masonboro Island. Curriculum-based programs led by experienced instructors serve school groups, homeschool organizations, scouts, seniors, church groups, and 4-H groups, with customization available for specific needs. Family programs introduce participants to the Carolina coast's natural wonders. Founded in 1992, Carolina Ocean Studies conducts over 25,000 educational programs annually.
