About Bonita Nature Place

Bonita Nature Place in Bonita Springs is a nature center where visitors explore trails along the Imperial River and learn about Southwest Florida's natural environments. The property features interconnected habitats including oak hammocks, pine flatwoods, riverine forests, and aquatic areas. Visitors encounter over 24 active Gopher Tortoises, a threatened species whose burrows are scattered throughout the preserve. The grounds include a European Honeybee Observation Hive in the Bee House, managed by a resident beekeeper, and a large Bat House donated by community members. Two butterfly gardens planted by volunteers showcase Florida native plants and Florida-friendly landscaping designed to support pollinators without pesticides. The learning center offers educational programs and classes during certain months, staffed by naturalists who help visitors understand local ecosystems and environmental conservation. The trails open at dawn, making it suitable for families interested in wildlife observation and outdoor nature study.
