The Aqueduct Bridging Chockoyotte Creek in Weldon, North Carolina is part of the Roanoke Canal Trail, a 7.2-mile historic pathway following the original tow path between Roanoke Lake and Weldon. Visitors hike, run, or cycle the wooded trail to experience engineering structures from the early 1800s, including the original aqueduct and stone culverts that remain intact. The trail passes the 39-foot-wide canal channel and its 10-foot-wide tow path, providing pedestrian access between Roanoke Rapids and Weldon. The Roanoke Canal Museum, located where the trail crosses Roanoke Avenue, holds exhibits about the Roanoke River Valley's history, the canal's engineering feats, and its later use generating hydroelectric power. Wildlife observers can spot deer, fox, bald eagles, osprey, hawks, pileated woodpeckers, and great blue herons. The eastern trailhead at River Falls Park offers fishing, a boat ramp, picnicking, and playground facilities. The trail is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as a site on the North Carolina Coastal Plains Birding Trail.
